i'm playing with vray and the mat.-editor at the moment and i tried to create a real diamond.
the modeling wasn't a big problem, but i wonder if you guys could give me some tips to create a good scene(maybe a light box) and a nice material.

that's my result:

i know there are several threads on this topic, but i couldn't find something usefull.

It looks pretty good. I always find that diamond scenes look better if the ground its on is a darker color. Your caustics look accurate but the light thats hitting the diamond seems a little too intense. I'm a FinalRender user so I don't know the Vray specifics.

Because of the high ior of a diamond you'll want some dispersion to make it look more realistic, since vray doesn't support dispersion you can fake it with a trick that was posted here recently, just render 3 times with the ior of red, green and blue light and then in photoshop take the different color chanels from the different renders and you get a nice dispersion effect with some little colorful sparks in the diamond.

You might actually want to look up the 3D Lapidary site for reference, they have accurate models of gemstones there-- if your raytracing is realistic, the angles of the cuts are actually VERY specific to get a good effect, subtle differences can ruin the way the gem catches light.

ok, thank's for your quick help guys.
that's the best result i could achieve, but it was donne with the normal scanline render.
maybe someone can tell me how to make a vray material for my diamonds. that would be good for the caustics.
