Description:

Hello, this is my first HMC and for it I decided to make an attacking great white. I've modelled the base mesh in 3ds MAX and after that I added the details in Zbrush. Texturing was done in Photoshop and comping in Fusion. The whole process took me around 4 days and I'm fairly happy with the result. I hope you guys like my entry and I wish the best of luck to the other participants.

Hiya,

I attempted the mimic octopus:

This fella was discovered in the 90's and nobody knew what he was since he did a convincing job of mimicking the environment as well as other sea creatures!(For example he/she would bury himself and leave only a tentacle showing to mimic an eel).

Cool vids of the mimic:

Tried to give the meaning of Ocean, a vast quantity of water, a more stylized approach. A theme with-in a theme with-in a theme! I used 3dsmax and photoshop, and rendered with V-Ray. The modeling took me roughly 30 hours, Texturing 18 hours, Lighting 4 hours and Compositing 2 hours.

Cheers!

Hi everyone, thanks to everyone who commented on my wips. My first HMC went pretty well. The piece is a confrontation between a young hammerhead shark and a green moray eel. The shark's companions spiral above, near the water surface while the main shark dives to investigate the eel's rocky home. I modeled everything with maya and zbrush, textured with zbrush and photoshop, rigged in maya, rendered with mental ray. The modeling took about 3 days for the shark and 3 days for the eel. Rigging took most of my time, about 2 weeks for the eel and 4 days for the shark. texturing, lighting, posing, rendering and photoshop touchups to the beauty render took another week roughly. Here's my beauty and orthos:

DESCRIPTION : Working backwards from a initial composition idea I had to create and model various animals within the timeframe. All the primary parts I got ready in time even had time to model a cleaner fish :) I got some very good ideas and feedback along the way regarding composition and I'd like to thank the people for that. It helped me alot to make the scene more convincing and interesting. Everything is left untextured in the Scene Render. I wish everyone good luck and respect to everyone participating its some great pieces your creating. Regards Anders

I chose to do a battle between a Sperm Whale and Colossal Squid. Squid v Whale popped into mind when first seeing the post for this new challenge so I did some research and saw that Sperm Whales are known to eat the elusive Colossal Squid so it seemed like a perfect fit to try to do as accurate a rendition of this battle as I could. Hope you enjoy.

This is my third time participating in the Hardcore Modeling Challenge and, as usual, I had a lot of fun, I feel that I've grown a great deal through competing in these and look forward to taking part and seeing you guys around again soon.

I chose to model a couple of deep sea creatures for this oceans challenge, the hairy angler fish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hairy_angler) and the frilled shark (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frilled_shark). It was a challenge just finding good reference photos for either of them. I used maya for modeling and rendering and zbrush for sculpting.

Software Used: ZBrush, Maya, UVLayout, Topogun, RealFLow, Mental Ray

Description: I initially wanted to depict 2 Orcas or Bottlenose Dolphins breaching, but since, in addition to not having the time, I found good reference very hard to come by, decided to dedicate this work to my best reference, Keiko, the more or less voluntary star of the movie "Free Willy". As of this deadline this piece is still very unfinished, missing textures and an environment render. But what the heck, this has to do for now. :)

Great work everybody!

Cheers!

Edit: Since Roberto indicated we have till tonight, I took the liberty to "tweak" this a bit more with a quick&dirty RealFlow sim, since I did not really feel like sleeping any more. If anybody has a problem with this, make yourself heard.

I have always liked Great Whites and the ones here are very good, but there is one being made in the Collab. Forums which, although I am aware there is no time limit on these projects, I have been keeping an eye on and it could be sublime. Great challenge!

WIP Thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=208&t=888722)

Description:

Hello, this is my first HMC and for it I decided to make an attacking great white. I've modelled the base mesh in 3ds MAX and after that I added the details in Zbrush. Texturing was done in Photoshop and comping in Fusion. The whole process took me around 4 days and I'm fairly happy with the result. I hope you guys like my entry and I wish the best of luck to the other participants.
