I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this and I am sorry ahead of time if thats the case.

My question is a broad one but I am needing to create some sort of metrics to use for future projects because of situations coming up with budgeting and time.

If I were tasked to coordinate a team of 4 designers, 6 programmers, 8 artists to create a "Serious Game" which would entail the player being immersed in an environment they can explore from a FPS POV that would last for 1-2 hours of gameplay, how much time would be needed to truly develop something worthwhile? Sorry for the run on sentence. I would be happy to post more specific details if someone could walk me through the average amount of money it takes to produce something of this magnitude. I would like to compare it to how game studios have their pipeline layed out and how long specific tasks take. Just needing a base line to go off of.

The tools this team can use are (Flash, Maya, Max, Lightwave, Modo, Photoshop, Fireworks, Unity, MS office products, Audio tools)
The end result would actually be in a flash based pre rendered environment.

Any help, guidelines, links, or input would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!!

Suggest you try:

www.gamasutra.com
www.gamedev.net

These two sites would be a gateway to further information.

+1 for the links above but if you are using Unity game development should be fairly fast as long as you can get your assets made in a decent time frame. I've used Unity a lot and its great.

They actually have a tutorial on their website that walks you through creating a 3D first person game. Its great how fast you can get something up and running and playable in Unity.
