View Full Version : Modeling cloth?
CGmonkey 09-17-2003, 05:17 PM Hi,
I've run into a small problem you might help me with.. Do you guys have any reference of cloth or any tips on modeling cloth?
I have Maya 5 complete so I can't use Maya's cloth simulation

Cloth is a biyotch. U kinda gotta figure out what your character is going to be doing (extremes and stuff as supplied by animation director). Then you kinda make a best guestimate of how the wrinkles should look.
A great source for basic understanding is this: Dynamic Wrinkles and Drapery By Burne Hogarth.
Another trick it to study seamstress patterns and try to emulate these, getting the "pattern" shape into the "wearing shape" through bones/joints.
BTW: In their natural state, the best capes almost always look sorta like Pacman or a pizza with one or two pieces missing.
