View Full Version : displacement maps in Mental Ray

Hi. I have a simple displacement map I wish to use, but I;m not sure if I need to do anything differently to render it in MR than I would using the software renderer? This tutorial here http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/ZBrush_To_Maya_Displacement_Guide#Using_Mental_Ray.27s_Displacement_Approximation seems to indicate I have to go about it a different way.

Thoughts?

well it depends on your displacement map. Did you get it from Zbrush ?
is it 32 bit ?

It's not from zbrush no, but that tut was all I could find regarding mental ray..

It's just a tga I baked out of Maya, following this tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bqS-z0-GJo

then all you need is to apply an approximation node..and thats it :)
