View Full Version : Ropes objecys
you know how when u throw a rope its all bunched up and the lengthends out, well i got a character shooting a gun with one of those grappling hook things on it (well the grappling hook is actualy a suction cup so its comical), any way i'm getting it modeled nicely and the such, i just need to know how to create that rope effect, any ideas?, i thought of just giving the rope some sort of fdd box modifier or a noise modifier and make it slowly come back in but i dont know if that will work, opinions or ideas?

Honestly, if you are using Max5 or above, I'd suggest using reactor. It has a full spline-based rope physics calculation system built right in. This will give you the greatest realism, and often is easier to use than trying to make this effect with modifiers.
If you don't have reactor, you can download simcloth from www.chaosgroup.com
It's a free cloth simulator, and if you tweak the simulation, you can get very decent rope effects.
Just some thoughts.
