i was looking for a fish-eye camera effect in maya when i came across a simple solution... a half sphere attached to the camera... the camera has a blinn material, so it refracts and results in a similar effect of a fish-eye camera... when rendered in maya software it looks good... but when rendered in mental ray, the textures become blurry... anyone?

its a BUG in 2011

I'd say a better solution would be to set the filter type to Mipmap and then enable the
mental ray elliptical filter option found in the mental ray section of the file node (if its a file node that causes the issues that is).

I dont think elliptical will work

you can also.
leave the filter as is, then go to Effects > and adjust it from there

thanks! it worked both ways... with the eliptical filter it took a little less time, 11s in a test scene...

just out of curiosity, with the same scene, when i used a blinn on a object, the reflection was all messed up... when i switched to a mia_material it worked just fine... any particular reason?
