View Full Version : Still: Cig box
Aluuk 09-17-2003, 11:21 AM Hello everyone! This is my first attempt at photoreal texturing. I know it isn't photoreal yet, and I was hoping you all would know what to say to help push me ever onward and upward. Thanks a ton! (BTW this was/is a class assignment so the models are not my own. It is just my job to try and texture them.)
Software: Maya 5, Photoshop 7

Its just too clean, that's all. Put ash in the ashtray. You hardly ever see a clean one much less an unlit cigarette in one. Ruffle up the corners on the box. Round them off a bit. I imagine they've been in a pocket or purse or something getting banged up, crushed, and whatnot. Adding these things will make the composition more interesting to look at. Give it a try and see what happens.

I agree with ntmonkey. Even if you're going for a clean product ad look, you should still add subtle flaws. For instance, cigarettes have a slight bumpiness to the paper from the tobacco inside. Also, there should at least be a specular map of some kind on the ashtray to give variatino to the highlights.
Looks good though otherwise.

You image looks flat. Almost as if you are using default lighting. A quality lighting setup will go a long way to making this scene look photoreal. This is in addition to what has been stated above.
