View Full Version : Issue with Modo default zoom
breakfast 05-31-2010, 02:33 PM Hey everyone.
I've noticed an issue in modo where the default grid/zoom is extremely far out. When I manipulate objects it's in kilometres instead of just metres or centimetres. If I create a default object, say a cube (ctrl-click) I have to scale it up 12 million percent just to be able to see it lol (the cube starts at like 1m/1m/1m. If I try to zoom in on said cube I sort of get stuck in an endless abyss and the cube vanishes).
I've tried playing with the units in preferences but it doesn't make a difference. I can still model fine, but my objects have to 100s of km's long, where i'd rather have them in metres.
Would anyone know what my issue is?
Thanks in advance.

Maybe A key and SHIFT+A key will help you... I didn't have such a problem, or don't pay attention.
With Apple Magic Mouse I have though the problem that zoom in/out is way to fast, so I just use control+option combination for zooming.

The scaling of objects/ the zooming in the viewport in Modo is very confusing, you never know exactly how big the object actually is you are working with. Even if it says that you are just millimeters away at the bottom right of the viewport the object can still be very far away from the viewport camera for some reason only the developers know about. I never experienced this kind of problem in any other 3D program I have used.
When this problem happens, just press Shift + A as mrreynolds said. This will reset the zoom.

Yeah thanks guys, Shift+A did it. It is a bit confusing at first I'll admit, I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Have you tried leaving the pointer on your object when zooming in? You might have that problem because you're pointing into empty space and not leaving the magnifying glass on the polygons
As the others said. Shift+A will center your view and zoom on all selected geometry. If none is selected it will center on the whole item.
For example when you´re working inside an apartment and want to concentrate on a corner just select some geometry, hit Shift+A and zoom out a bit.
When you start a freeform model create a 1m (or whatever size you want in total) cube first to establish a dimension.
Also avoid the zoom/pan/rotate icons n the viewport. Especially zooming works centered on the pointer. Use the mouse with keyboard shortcuts instead.

hey folks i'm a modo noob/trying it out & i'm having harsh-mouse-speed problem similar to urs but my scroll-zoom and ALL mouse speed is outta control: way too fast;
Any ideas how to
compensate:: the problem is that my mouse is fine in other 3d apps (and it's fine overall, so i can't just go change my
global-mouse/hardware settings)..
btw, running XP pro.
..perhaps i'll post this as new modo thread.

r0b3030 (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=310354), I'm having such a problem with very fast zooming in Modo basically because of my magicmouse on mac.
What I do - I just don't use it as scroll for zooming, I use shortcuts of the keyboard.

h3llo thanx for reply, but i'm having problem with mouse speed in all pan & zoom & rotate, not just scroll wheel, any ideas?
i'm using a Logitech mouse, has always worked well for smooth control in other
apps such as C4d, Photoshop, my browser....
i'll go join Luxology.com & see what's suggested there also.
