Hello,

recently I have switched from Cinema 4D to Max and I have a question, that I hope somebody will be able to answer.

My problem is about the texturing in Max. I know at Cinema, that texturing is like layers in adobe photoshop, you have layers of textures, and you can move every single layer with a Max called "gizmo".

However as I see at Max, I only found the Composite material and some similar things, that sort of do the job ( you have to change the parameters and render, to see whats happening ).

Is there a way to do these things? Any free plugins or maybe payable?

Any info would be great!

Thank you, and sorry for my English.

You can Select move and scale a bitmap, just change the U and V Offset-and tiling while keeping an eye to the viewport to see the effect.

You can have two materials that mix with a mix map -and that blend material can also be part of another blend one-which makes three materials and so on.

The mix map most often might be a procedural map or a bitmap-(not to mention vertex colors, which i dont use)

There is a paint tool at the tools menu (max 2010-11) called viewport canvas.
With that 3d paint you can also do texturing-the least you can do with that is painting mix maps that you ll load as masks to mix the materials.

Now,if you are talking about composite material features like scaling down the whole material and moving it around like a 2d layer, then,an easy way is to make a new mix map with a 3d paint program like the cinema4d bodypaint or with the viewport canvas as i mentioned.
