Here's another car.

Maya 5 MentalRay with a little bit of the 'ol Final Gathering.

Please deal out any comments and suggestions, this is my second maya car project and my comprehension of shaders isnt that great.

and does anyone have any ideas why the background pic looks so grainy? its a high rez picture 3000X1200 UV mapped to a nurbs sphere.
anyway here it is.

Thanks
James Spouler.

model looks nice but the hdri gives strange reflections on the model
in the first pic it looks like something hit the backdoor

oh yeah, hmm .. i think that that crushed in back door is from a bad light placement.. im gionna get on that right now.

Hey!
The model is nice but you have to work the render...
As Dennispls says, there's some strange reflexions.... But nothing you can't fix!;)

Keep going!

James it looks almost perfectly modeled, the render is what is keeping it from being stellar. The materials, as you know, need some work. Only modeling flaw I can see is just ahead ot the rear wheel, it looks a little "off". With a little more work this could really be great!

damn.... guess i gotta get back to work... I wouldn't say that at all! its a great model and the render is pretty good, althougth I'm not sure the environment is really the best for it.

I think a different background (or setting whatever) might be better. As far as the model goes, the reflections might be turned down a tad. Also the missing tailights confuses me.

But other than that, I think its pretty awesome actually. i think you blended the scene together pretty darn well:)

Could you post a low poly wire of the car/scene?

I agree its a good model and a good comp....
I think its just the reflections or something....perhaps blurring the reflections or something, how to do that I do not know...
As far as the NURBS sphere....I dont know enough about Maya yet but have you tried it with a poly sphere yet?
I never had that happen with a poly sphere but maybe its just stretched slightly or something....

But it is a great render!

No sub-d's for this guy, all built as nurbs linear patches and converted to poly for detailing..

ill post a new render of the re-surfaced car in a few weeks..

Man the modeling is good but you really should work on the materials.

And do some iteriors for the tail lights.

I like the wheels ;)
