I thought I would ask because there are some owners here of the Boxx solutions, sorry if it's the wrong place...

I'm buying the 2600 from a guy and he sent me photos of it. But the bottom part looks strange. I'm pretty sure it says "Clevo Co" underneath, and "Model D9F", "Product Code D900F" which I googled. And I got a laptop called Clevo D900F, although the page also said something about Clevo parts being used in Go Boxx, so I'm not sure if it's a fake or not. Maybe someone here can confirm.

I don't have that exact Boxx system but it looks legit to me based on the photos on the Boxx website. Also the serial number sticker looks like the one did on my Apexx system. The legitimacy aside, I hope you're getting a good deal on it. Otherwise you might be better off buying a newer notebook from Lenovo, Acer, etc. Cheers!

Thanks for the quick reply. It's not what I was originally going for. I asked a reseller in my country how much the 2600 would go for with six cores, 12gb ram, quadro card and just 500gb hdd 7.200rpm. And I got the reply of circa $9.000! It's a bit too much for me, or a lot really. But this one I could get for only $2.300. However, it's only quad core and 6gb ram I believe. Also GeForce, but I don't think the graphics card will make a difference. Another place that sold it with same specs as the one I'm thinking of buying, cost circa $4.000. So I think it's a good deal. I'll take a chance... I'll have a few days to test it. A Boxx laptop has always been a dream of mine, and I finally got $3.000 to spend on goodies!

Most laptops from smaller companies are just generic Clevo machines with a different logo slapped on top.

Are you hell bent on getting a laptop? If you were willing to get a desktop instead, you could save a ton of money.

Hmm, you're right :S... Just had a look at Clevo's site. The D900F model (http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/products/prodinfo_2.asp?productid=19#), which looks pretty much the same as the g0boxx also has pretty much the same specs! Weird, so what does make the g0boxx special... other than the price that is! I won't be needing no support (never have called a company to ask about something, my previous computers have never arrived with any serious problems) and all companies (dell, apple) test their computers before shipping them, so whats the deal?

I dunno, I wanted a laptop cause I need to work on locations as well as at office/home. But it seems like the g0boxx ain't special no more, only their apexx but that's way out of my price range.

Well if you absolutely "need" a laptop, you might want to figure out how much power you really need. A decent dual core laptop with anything but an integrated videocard could very well be good enough for what you need while on the go, and you still might have enough money left over to then buy yourself a higher-end desktop for when not traveling.

It all depends on how demanding your work is - my Core2Due with a Nvidia card is a few years old, and yet honestly it is still quite fast for general stuff. I wouldn't want to render on it, but for most modeling/photoshop duties it's perfectly fine. Hell, the worst thing about laptops isn't even necissarily their speed, but their lack of screen real estate - even a large, high rez laptop screen is tiny compared to a dual-monitor setup at home.

Just an option you might want to look into.
BTW, how's the 3D market in GR?

Wow that GPU sounds like it will catch on fire. Is there a specific reason you need a fermi gpu? I'm not trying to knock on it, I'm just curious what the use of 352 shader cores is on a quad core laptop.

Otherwise I don't see much spec difference between the Clevo D900F and just a regular Dell Studio XPS that costs half the price brand new.

Also, if you buy new from a company such as Dell, you'll get support/warranty whereas buying it from another individual, you're basically completely on your own if something goes wrong. Laptops are notorious for having hardware failures, I'd caution against buying something used.

have a look at avadirect.com, they also have the clevo D900F and for $3000 you could get some pretty crazy stuff. they can even make one with a Xeon processor.

Hey Adam!
Now we can start bashing on those overpriced Boxx rigs without you coming to the rescue :D
Welcome back!

I got it today! :) :) It seems to be working fine, and looks like it hasn't been used at all. Only problem I have is when I connect the AC charger to it, the charger itself (not the goboxx) makes a strange and loud noise. Is it supposed to make a loud noise? The computer does not make any noise itself, and if I unplug the laptop it goes quiet again :S

EDIT: It has to do with the Power Plan. I had it on High performance originally, switched to Power Saver and now it's a lot less noisy. So should I only switch to the noisy one when like rendering or simulation perhaps? Would it make any difference, and could it harm the laptop, or is it normal to use the high performance option often?
