View Full Version : I'm dialing my lifeline! v7.3 or v8.2

Hi,

I'm having a terribly hard time trying to choose between a few offers over at Maxon.

Here are the choices I'm considering:

- Buy XL 7.3 + BodyPaint1 + Dynamics +PyroCluster $599.00

- Buy Release 8 and Body Paint R1 $694.00

- Buy Release 8 and Body Paint R2 $1045.00

I currently have Cinema 4D CE R6.3, but I need to buy Body Paint for sure. So now that I'm shopping for Body Paint, I found some tempting offers
Plus, I don't know whether to settle for Body Paint R1 or R2.

But I'm wondering, is there a big difference between 6.3 amd 7.3? At this stage in the game, is it even worth going back to any of these older versions?

Here are my needs:

1 - Excellent modeling tools to model characters (low-poly/high-poly), rooms, etc.
2 - Texture map them with the highest detail possible
3 - Basic animation to intermediate animation (all my character animation will be done using MotionBuilder... a plugin for Cinema 4D should be near)

Let's say I can model a character and texture map him just fine with R7.3 and BP R1, but if can do it a lot easier and better with R8.2 and BP R2, then I would justify the price. But if the differences are subtle then I can hold out.

I need your help. Post any advice,

Thanks!
Leo :D

Avoid R7, get R8 (1st or 2nd option, up to you), another story.

i'd say option 3 fer sure--huge differences in workflow and features. IMHO. :)

3! 8.2 is, ofcourse, the best C4D ever and BP2 is ...is..simply  BP2 alone would justify a pricetag of 1045$.
At some point you might want to have a look at Mocca though - despite MB.
MB 5 is awesome, I know, but Mocca is pretty powerful by itself and if Maxon suceeds with the fbx plug itŽll be a dynamic duo.

0_o when has maxon failed?

hmm I am remebering a little thing called HDRI that no one, and I mean no one. Thought they would supply us with.

Not exactly always so easy to use but I second that.

Hi,
if BodyPaint is your main concern the BP 2 is a must imho. It has been improved very much in regard to release one. If R8 + BP 2 is to expensive then Choose R8 + BP 1 since some of the workflow of BP 2 made it in BP 1 with 8.2.
R7 + BP 1 is basicaly not comparable to R8 + BP 2 since the later one is much more powerfull.

Cheers

In your place I would buy "Release 8 and Body Paint R1 $694.00". It's a greate offer. I used BP1, and now I'm using BP2. I think you should compare the features of the R1 and R2, and after that choose.

Well... I use Visual FoxPro, and I could afford VFoxPro8, but still using VFoxPro6. That's because the new features don't worth the extra cost for me.

Where on Maxons web site are you finding these offers?

An is there a way to upgrade from Cinema 4D CE (that comes with CA 88) to just C4D R8?

Oh an I would go with C4D R8 and Body Paint R1 $694.00

Well guys, I know you are going to kill me but I chose an option that wasn't even list.

One of the deals that I didn't mention here, but I did in one of my earlier threads (Body Paint Resource Depot), was that I could buy Cinema 4D Studio R8 Competitive Upgrade for $1600.00.

So I racked my brains for a long time. And the price of the 7.3 XL deal was great. But then I kept thinking I would probably update soon and if I did the whole thing would cost me close to $1400.00

And then R8 and Body Paint R2 is $1045.00, so for $500 I get SO much more. :deal:

So after a long and extensive thought process (and with the help of those of you who posted that 7.3 wasn't worth it), we (me and my partner) decided to buy the studio bundle for $1600.00! :D

Thanks guys for helping me out. You directed a disoriented artist to the path of enlightment and inner peace :wise:

p.s. I don't mind MOCCA. I particularly like it's soft body IK for making wobbly stuff. I don't like it's Pose Mixer (you have to keep all your faces in the same position as the original head, or the faces will move). But then again, it's MOCCA's first realease. BTW, do modules get updates? Never seen it happen.

Almost forgot..

Shizam: I got these offers via e-mail. Just call Maxon, 1-877-ANIMATE and I'm sure they can make it happen for you!

As far as upgrading, I'm not sure. You see, the version we all recieved (the FREE one off the mags) is called Cinema 4D "CE" R6.3 and as far as I know, "CE" isn't one of their upgrade options.

But you can ask them, doesn't hurt to try.

Have you tried the plugin "OptimizedMorph" by Fabian Rosenkranz?
YouŽll find it at www.studio-fabian.de

Good decision to go with the studio bundle!

Bp2 for example. But Advanced Render has been improved with HDRI, Thinking Particles with a lot of new nodes, Dynamics has been touched too.

Sorry maybe I didn't express myself clearly. I didn't mean new releases like BP2. Those in my eyes, aren't updates, but more like new releases and you need $$$ to get them :)

I meant updates, just like Cinema 4D R8 was updated to 8.1, and now 8.2 (I'm talking about the FREE stuff :D )

I just asked before, because I was hoping MOCCA would get a free update soon, to improve on it a little. I guess I'm too spoiled by MotionBuilder

Cinema4D updates are not only updating the core, but the modules too. Like the recent Cineam4D R8.2 modul updated thinking particles. One of these updates where the introduction of "Max particles" this saved my a... I mean my life. With it you can prevent situations where you create too many particles.
About Mocca updates... Well I don't remember any ground breaking Mocca update. But update 8.1 in march containd a delicious Dynamics update.

yea most of the modules have not been out long enough to get a ful point upgrade to like mocca two.

but like I said before microsoft this ain't and they do a hell of alot more than fix viruses.

(all my character animation will be done using MotionBuilder... a plugin for Cinema 4D should be near)

if you were to decide on an older version like 7.3, then thinking you would be getting a MotionBuilder plugin would be a risk to take, Maxon may decide to make a plugin for older versions of cinema but one never knows in these days, getting the last version of the program is most of the times more benificial.

Glad to see you went with the studio bundle.

yea 7 is almost a year out of being maxon's number one product. It's hard to tell how much support they are gonna get specially as it gets older and older.

remember that 7 is NOT backward compatible with 8
