Another question;
I got a good old healty 8600gt that came with a Dell computer 3 years ago. Im using it on my i7 comp right now. For most thing it do the job just fine considering I do mostly motion graphics. The last 2 projects were a bit more heavy in poly count and Layout is a bit slow especially when doing previews. With 40 objects and 500 000 polys, it's sluggish.
Would I see an improvement by softmodding my card? The 8600gt softmod to a quadro fx 1700.
And what can I expect from a GTS 250 or a GTX 260?
I would rather spend money on more ram in any case.
Edit: I post this in the LW section because I am mostly concern by LW opengl performance. I know 3ds max would be best with a quadro.
