:surprised I first posted this picture in the 3d Gallery / Finished Work (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=86920), where I was told that only renders are wellcome.

Thus I wish to start a new thread based on the theme of VIRTUAL REALITY. My system is: if I get comments, I post a new picture...

The starting piece is called "Magic Book".

Technical note: I had comments that the remote server had problems, and many could not see the pictures. Therefore after a couple of different options we finally we got it right. Thanks to all for sorting this out!

:applause: Yes, great. But WHICH HOST? I wish to remove the link that doesn't download. My guess is that you can see Host 1.

:wavey: Hey you 375 viewers! WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME?

Anyway here's the next piece about my tv at one point called "Matrix Console":

Well since you asked desperately for it: I'll give you my 2 cents. it's not my style i'm afraid, and furthermore it is way to visible that this is cut and paste work. The one with the dolphins: I still can see cutlines there near the hair of the woman. The one with the hallway: The woman has half a left-arm!

Fact is: It can be really beautyfull, just cut 'n pasting art, but 2 points:

- the average user here can do this in a few minutes
- you did only use cut 'n pasting. Problem: the lighting of the mixed pictures doesn't match. Try filters, fading effects, layer styles, etc, etc.
- be more precise with cutting and pasting!

Don't understand me wrong, no offense meant of course, and all this is just to help you. When I just started with photoshop I did a lot of cut and paste art, can be really amazing.

Thank you Garma! I am by no means offended at all. ;) That's exactly why I post my pictures here: to get honest feedback.

You are absolutely right, I would need some kind of technique to blend my layers more properly. Maybe you could give me more advise on how to do it. The following image has the same problem: I can't blend the layers properly and the edges are too rough too...

I would also be interested in how I can turn photographs into a 2d images. Somebody mentioned Painter on another thread. Do you think that's a good idea or is there any way of doing it in Photoshop or Photopaint?

I am just an amateur, but would love to improve...

:wavey: WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHICH HOST DOWNLOADS THE PICTURES? I want to get rid of the bad link!!!

So anyway here's the next piece from Host 1. called "Pod 1":

Hai! Ok I'll give it a shot. Usually I play around untill I like it, I can't give you a always-working technique. Look very closely to the kind of picture you have. Cartoon is mostly better that photographs. I'll explain why. Cartoons exist of lesser colours, so with layer styles you can easily get rid of the background (screening or multiplying usually works best).

Now when using photographs it's best to first cut the object out using the lasso tool or the magnetic lasso tool (you did that). zoom in for every part very closely, you need to work almost on picture level. Now in the "select" menu you find "feather". I smoothes the selection you make so it looks more naturally. Always experiment with that.

Another way is making paths. You can use those if the object is pretty well defined and has a lot of curves. Masks also will help you but you need to check out tutorials for them it's a pretty extended subject :)

Also try combining the above techniques. There is another very good technique, which works very good with hair and such. I don't know it anymore since I didn't do photoshop cut-n-paste art anymore for a while :) It's described in the adobe photoshop learning book "classroom in a book" from adobe but I can t remember it anymore.. It's a very good book, buy it if you want to continue with photoshop. I checked it out for you, can't find the good chapter anymore.

Now for the picture you showed last: Get rid of the white line! It's better to erase something from the object than leaving white there. Though I think the layer style can fix your problem here. And find some tutorials about 2D lighting! (filters ->render->light) It's a reallly extensive and important subject. Basically you need to match the lightings from the pictures, give the viewer the feeling that the man is "in" the green space

for the photograph->2d conversion I assume you want to use photo's in your computer. Pretty easy, buy a scanner. Photoshop recognises him (windows does... well... skip it :)) and you can use it from the file->import menu.

Thought you'd be interested in some old cut-n-paste art from me:

:) Thank you for the detailed suggestions. I will pick up the picture again as soon as my time will allow and use the suggestions to improve it...

I know I have been a lazy cropper - the content always seems to dominate and I guess I don't spend enough time on the quality. I wish to improve however.

If you are interested on better quality photomanipulation, please check out my other thread on
Indian Sadhu Mandala (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=823964)

Thanks for the comments again. Here's the next picture - a self portrait from last year:
