Hi there!

here's some of my latest work, it's based on a pic by Brom that I fell in love with recently.
I tried to reproduce it, adding my own touch..

Character model done in maya 5.0 and textures in photoshop..

wow, that's an awesome piece of art. i love it.
could you post that pic from brom which inspired you ? i dont think i've seen it before. would like to compare it to yours

That's stunning. I love it. The other views are not quite as beautiful as the side view but I guess you were trying to get the same feel as Brom's piece and went for the same view. The little spines on her head at the very back close to the neck seem a bit awkward, but other than that I can't fine much to complain about.
P.S. the texturing is amazing.

hey i'm a big fan or Brom also. he RULES

i used to have the 6 foot dog/creature pic as my Desktop for a LONG time...

one thing, it might just be me. but i think a diff lighting that would give the pic more contrast would be good

imho

Incrediblah
09-16-2003, 02:56 AM
awesome job. did you use the painting itself in the texture map? its almost exactly the same. wireframes?

Looks "inspired" by the latest work of http://www.3dluvr.com/pascalb/ . love the textures tho.

EVIL
09-16-2003, 06:39 AM
well, its a brom design, so it cant be inspired by pascal. cuz it looks exact the same as the brom one.

well here a link to the original artwork from Brom:

http://www.bromart.com/gallery/ThingsThatBite/images/Helexa1.jpg

and here is my model:

Hi rez (http://toce.3d-station.com/temp/helexa7.jpg)

and the wires:

hi rez (http://toce.3d-station.com/temp/helexa7wire.jpg)

And yes, my maps are based on the illustration, with rework on it..

even if you have used broms artwork as a texture and reworked it a bit, the result is awesome.
your modeling skills are great!
but half the credit has to go to brom for the brilliant texture on your model :)

Wow, this is so creapy. I love it. I know it is modeled after a Brom painting, but it also looks like something Gieger could do.

Keep up the creepy work, its great!!

Told you before and I'll tell you again, great work :) (even though I'm not too fond of that particular painting ;)) Good job with textures, lighting and modeling! I'd like a liiiitle more contrast, she blends in a little too well with the background, but that's just me.

eheh actually I know that pict for almost 8 years now ;) Im a huge fan of Brom's art , no wonder it always pop out in my creations.... there's Bisley too, Arthur Suydam, Moebius, Katsuhiro Otomo, and recently Katsuya Terada and Koji Morimoto (yeah lots of japanese artists, but these guys are so creative! )

Once again Toce, i'm blown away by your model :) great stuff!

What a great model. Brom is awesome, and you've done him justice.

I think it gets lost in the background a bit. I'd like to see emphasis put on the model and not the surroundings.

Yeah nice bit of modelling but why not try and do something original?

Maybe I'm being pedantic but yes the geometry is good but you haven't really expended any effort on the texturing.

Sorry - not madly impressed [by the image as a whole]

And it´s very hard to do this kind of work! Just look at the ribs! all perfect! I like your work man, One suggestion: Try another pose. It looks flat: at first I thought It was a drawing. BTW looks a lot like the mermaid we saw months ago by another really good artist, in the sense, they got the same approach, That`s why I suggest anothe pose.

Everyting else: man, you`re not human! :scream:

Nice Job at capturing the Brom Piece!! I love it, and it would probably be cool to see your touch added to it with some different textures and modeling.

really nice piece! I love the renders of the model without the textures more just because they show all the model detail that is lost in the final render. Are you planning to finish the lower half of the body because it would be really cool to see this creature moving. really great work!:)

09-16-2003, 08:40 PM
WOW! So many talented artists that I admire to tell me nice words, I'm impressed and very flate!!! Thank you all!!

Actually I'm currently thinking of doing a demo reel, so you should be able to see it move a bit.. in the near future I hope :)

Bliz >> I just fell in love with the original pic so the initial purpose was to see if I was able to translate it in 3d, sort of an excercice.. I took a lot of pleasure working on that piece and learned a lot. Keep looking for more personnal works, they re coming ;)

here is the light setup for the one who ask for it

http://toce.3d-station.com/temp/lightsetup.jpg

pretty simple: the key light is the area at the left of the image... second area light to the right gives the blue back light...

The directional light from behind just to get some light from the wall

and the rest are juste low intensity volume light just to get more brightness where I wanted to have the shapes more visible..

Very nice rendition, the only thing that bothered me about this piece is how closely her texture matched the wall, aside from that I really like what you've done here. Love the blue light :)

Looks amazing, I thought it was the 2D version too for a second.

The texture looks unbelievably close to the painting, especially on the head. Is the painting projected onto the scene, or did you paint it yourself?
