Does AE his able to transform a text layer into a mask (to exactly match all the character without retracing a mask for each one).

Hi...
In AE the txt effect have already a mask. When u use the txt fx u have to selected the box" composite on original" if it's selected.
Otherwise u can make your txtin illustrator for basic txt.
And if u want to use the txt area as a mask u should play with the track matte box or the fusion mode.

no i think you don't understand my question. I need to mask another layer with text. My cloud need to appear only in each characters.

Ok i find an other way.
I put my text white in front of my clouds and a use Stencil Alpha in diffusion mode and it work great.
