Okay, the Helix is one nifty little object, I'd love to be able to use them, especially as paths for Loft objects. (I'm using v4.2, dunno if this problem I'm having is different in later versions)

Problem is, the darn things have ZILLIONS OF VERTS and there's no 'interpolation' setting as proper Splines have, to cut down on the insanity. So, when I convert a Helix to a spline to use as a path, I end up with a mess of billions of verts that's impossible to deal with-- if I wanted THAT, I'd just import splines from AutoCAD. Honestly.

Anybody know of a setting I'm missing, or otherwise quick and helpful method of getting these suckers to cooperate?

Add a normalize-spline modifier to the helix. Then add a editable spine modifier. Tweak the seg Lenght parameter in the normalize spline modifier for more control, go back to the top of your stack to see the results.
