Did this for a challenge at another site. Posted it in the finished work forum AND at the top of the C4D forum in the appropriate thread. 1 lousy comment all day long. Thought I'd post it here too since it can't possibly be that bad, can it? -- 3d_e

I like it. It looks pretty good, but there is something off about the skin of the peppers. could you make them look a little more waxy. also, maybe add some liquid to the glass, perhaps milk. whoever is eating thoses peppers will definately need some liquid.

this is looking cool  , one thing though, those chillies look to long and the ends of them look a little jittery, looks as though the crumple tool was used, maybe put them on a cutting board of some kind or make another that's been split down the middle to add a little more details to the scene

Looks good, the only thing that bother me are those drops of water somehow they look a bit too evenly spaced.

whoever is eating thoses peppers will definately need some liquid.
not a good idea, just makes it hurt all the more.

Nice...!

Meaby indeed fill the glass with one of these (http://www.salsastore.com/hottest_hot_sauces) refreshing beverage's

I like it too--nice materials and lighting. The drops bug me too, more because they're too because of the spacing as mentioned, but also because the size/shape is too similar.

hmm I like it the only thing that is odd is the DOF its kinda throwing me for a loop.

But anyway yes people do get responses here. Its what C4D cgtalk it all about, when you do the hokey pokey and twist all about.

err or something like that.

Try milk, the fat'll stop 'em burnin'.

I would definately add a knife, a board and half a pepper....and some seeds!

Good start, but needs more than just the peppers!

Ahhhhhhh.....now THAT'S the good stuff. I can always count on my C4D buddies to come thru. About the skin, it's bugging me too but mostly on the habanero (yellow/orange) chillis. I think it looks very plasticy (is that a word?). Can someone give me some tips on how to fix that? Had comments about the water in other forum also. (note to self, ditch the water drops) Thanks again guys! I know it's a simple scene but I was kind of trying to keep it that way. I'll add some milk to that glass though. :buttrock: :buttrock: You guys rock! -- 3d_e

hmm how about you have the glass broken and the milk on the ground with a half eaten habenero sitting there.

I like these orange fruits - don't know how they are called.
The scene is a bit to clear. I would pack the fruits closer.

JIII: are you trying to kill me? I'm a total nube, I think that challenge exceeds my skill level a bit at this point in my learning curve. I mean, I could probably do it, but it would never look as good as it does in my mind's eye. It's an uber-cool idea though! Thanks to you too Bob, lots of excellent suggestions. I can't wait to get home to start working on it. -- 3d_e

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I hope you will see some improvements in this newest render although I'm not sure myself. I'm still struggling with the "plastic" skin and would love to try SSS with it but, alas, I'm too poor for the plug-in. Poor, poor me. Anyway, here it is, enough of my blubbering. -- 3d_e

have you considered using a 2 layer shader or chanlum?

This could greatly reduce the plasticy nature of the habenthingys.

lol that sounds german.

ODoul

What is chanlum and where can I find it? Surprisingly enough, I've never heard of it. I really watch these forums too. Hmmmm....must have missed that one. Thanks JIII, what is it, is it a SSS thing-a-ma-bobby? And, more importantly, is it free? -- 3d_e

Lookin good 3d_e I like this compisition better than the last :) its getting very close to realistic. However I think what is missing is the sss lol :). An maybe a lighting setup the shows more contrast strictly for artistic value. But I think you well on the right track .

I dont know of any plug free or cost for cinema that does true sss. However a plugin chanlum fakes it extrodinarilly well and its free. Perhaps someone knows the link and some settings that would work, I cant rember where I found it.

Also u can put sla 3d noise random or cell lnto the alpha channel and make them extremely small almost 1 percent global. It works well with some lighting to look like sss.

Good luck with the challenge 3d_e :), --ndat

Thanks ndat, I found it too. I put it in my plug-ins folder and nothing. Apparently, it's for PC only???? That, or I just don't know how to use it. More research on my part. I'm on a Mac, BTW. -- 3d_e

If you haven't already, try Blinn or Oren-Nayer shading instead of Phong.

it does work for the mac or at least it says it does I just downloaded it myself it says to right click on the link and save as I am going to mess with it a while let me know if you have any luck. I like the habeneros better in the newer versions

I haven't really used it much (on my Mac) yet 3D_e but as far as I know you have to load it into a materials channels (luminance, but I believe you can use it in others, correct me if I am wrong here guys).

DAMN! You're right P, I wish it wasn't so late here, I'd mess around with it some more. Oh well, gonna have to wait until tomorrow, BTW, I have another render going right now. I've exchanged the milk for water (looks better, I think??) and also changed Phong to Blinn on the Habanero shader (thanks Adam, it DOES look better), more tommorrow. -- 3d_e

Ok, it is late here but I couldn't resist doing a couple quick tests with the Chanlum shader and I have to tell you I'm very excited. It's made all the difference in combination with the Oren-Nayer change it looks SOOOO much better. I'm letting it render while I go to bed and will show you tomorrow. Thanks guys, you've really made a world of difference. -- 3d_e

There is also a Freeware version of Translucent Pro available at www.vreel-3d.de. You can find it in the plugins section.

I have Chanlum working in OSX with Cinema R6 CE+. I haven't achieved anything much with it yet, I'm getting very noisy results, it also needs SLA to get the best out of it. It looks promising though, it only fakes SSS though as does Translucent Pro - Thanks for the tip AvK! - Baz

Hi 3D_Explorer - I like the new composition! Much more interesting. I like the materials too, the stalks are spot-on IMO, the bump on the greens is just right, and those little orange mothers have a nice painterly look. Only the main chillies are letting the side down I reckon, maybe give them a slightly mottled colour rather than the flat red?

Also there seems to be a black keyline around the green chillies, and the lower half of the reds - over sharpenend, or heavy with the fresnel, or...

Nice work though! C

Thanks Chrissyboy! Here is the latest rendering. The results using the ChanLum shader weren't quite as dramatic as I had hoped but I think it made a big difference none the less. -- 3d_e

I really like the lighting and composition. The colors are perfect.
Models are very well done too.
Still kinda 'waxy' on the textures, unfortunatly I'm a noob at textures and can't provide any useful suggestions.

Thanks smoke, yea, I'm a noob too. I've just about exhausted all of my mental resources trying to perfect the textures. This model has taken it's toll on my real priorities which are family and school so it's probably time to lay it to rest. Thanks for your input! -- 3d_e
