View Full Version : motion path
ok i made a little animation, an object moves on a motion path and here is the problem: it should stop on a point on the curve for a while and should then move to the end of the curve.
how can I make this?
And how can I slow down my object on a part on the curve or speed it up?
Hope sombody can help :)

okido.
select your object and open up the graph editor. you will see a curve(for first it might be straight) but thats your time-anim along the path. it's easy to read. the X Axes is the framenumber (time). the Y Axes is the paramter on the curve (just the position). the parameter can be tricky. it's the same like the parametrisation on a surface. so let's say you have a paramter range from 1 to 10. it could be that the range from 1-9 is only half the curve and the rest 9-10 is the other half, and that for the object mooves much faster on the second part of the curve (was this clear enough ?). but actually this problem doesn't some up very often.
what you wanna da you can simply do with this anim curve. as i said it's a representation of time-point on curve relationship. so if you wanna stop somewhere on the curve place two new keys on the anim curve in the graph editor. lets say 10 frames before middle of anim and ten frames behind. then just set the Y Axes (value to the same Value ) i've attached the image to show you.
hope this helps

this would cause a slow down at the end of the anim.
P.S. can somebody teach my how to draw, i need some lessons :D
thx for explaining me this :)
but I have a problem: I added two new keys in the graph editor and gave the second point the same value as the first one.
But now my object moves until is at the first point, move some frames forward, but then it moves backward?!, and then forward again until it is at the end
can't I give the second point the same value?!?

then it's just the spline key thing. select your two new keys and press F. now the two are framed in the window. and will see a curvature flow of the anim curve. this causes the object to moove backwards a little bit. it's just animation keys.. select your two keys and press the marked button. this will flatten the tangents.

cool really like tthe anim :) just a suggestion on lighting. make the color of the shadow to something grey. not really black. but att all it's really nice. love the end then it mooves fast away :)

Ooooh, I have a question about motion paths too. I tried this about a month back and couldn't figure it out.
If you have a closed circle and use it as a motion path - how do you make the object attached to this path go round the circle indefinitely?
I tried playing with the post infinity settings but it still stops after one revolution.

first make sure that the path anim curve is linear (can do this by selecting the curve and then hit the second button behind the numeric field in the graph editor. looks like an open pyramid) after that just curves-post infinity-cycle. this gives you an object mooving around the curcle again and again. you also can watch the infinity by view-infinity

Cheers. Very logical.
I was trying to make it continue forever in a linear line (without the steps)
Thanks Svenip.
