View Full Version : Tablet picking(need your help)
benwin21 05-19-2010, 07:19 PM if this is not the place for this thread can you please move it, this is the only place in the forum that seemed that it is ok to post it in.
what is the best tablet that i can buy with 120$?
i was told that intuos4 S is a good tablet(dont mind paying 180$ for quality)
i was told that Bamboo Fun and Intuos 4 are the best that i can buy with this budget.
but the problem is that i dont know if it is even possible to draw on such small surfaces like:
(309 mm x 208 mm x 12 mm-intuos S)
(337 mm x 223 mm x 8.5 mm-Bamboo Fun)
(248 mm x 176 mm x 8.5 mm-Bamboo pen)
it seems impossible.
and how accurate are they?
do you mind showing me some artworks that were made on such small tablets?
-Thank you very much Ben

hi ben
this is actually not the right place to start this thread but you will get some answers anyway :D
intuos tablets are indeed great tools. the bamboo version is very downgraded compared to the intuos but for some guys the bamboo really has all they need (i think a lot of cost-concious people are using the bamboo for Z-Brush scultping). the intuos has a much preciser pressure sensitivity and resolution this may become important when painting.
yeah the talk about the sizes...
i really suggest that you find a place where you can try the tablets before buying. i myself always thought that the A5 wide is too small to paint but now i even think that its better than the bigger one for me. it really has to do with how you draw
if price ist very important to you maybe you'll find an intuos3 on ebay. there are a lot of people seeling their intuos3 to get the intuos4. usually the wacom tablets get some signs of usage but they work a lifetime

Your money will go further with a used model.

Some tutorials on how to use a tablet.

[should probably be moved to technical and hardware]

i have problem with buying from ebay because i live in Israel in the shipping cost pretty much and you need to pay customs which is cost a lot. and i will get my credit card when i will be 18(3 months).
a friend of mine asked me if i want his family which visits the USA (Denver) to buy me something. so i dont want to bother them and order from ebay. i prefer to buy it directly from wacom.

Have you tried Craigslist?

...and I wouldn't get anything older than an Intuos3, unless you really work big and can find a 9x12 or 12x12 Intuos 2 for that price. Also, try to get something with a similar aspect ratio to your screen. While this is not really essential, it can be nice to have a close tablet/screen mapping.

i found nothing. btw find a major problem. the intuos 4 SMALL costs a lot.
let me tell you how much it cost in terms that you will understand.
in a month i get 400 nis=~104$
so it will take me 2 months of payment to buy it, and i also want to buy a new computer which costs 3700 nis=968.84$
so is it a lot better than the bamboo fun? Is there a major difference that really worth 80$?
p.s it woud be great if you can give me models of intuos 3 that are bigger than the intuos 4 small and cost pretty much the same(200$)
-Thank you super very much Ben

lets compare:
the bamboo is about half the weight of the intuos4 (speaking of both small versions)
the exactness of the pens:
+/- 0.25mm for the bamboo
0.005mm fo the intuos!
transfer per second:
133 points per second for bamboo
200 points per second for intuos
and last but not least :D
cable length bamboo: 1.5m
cable length intuos: 2.5m
so i think the 80$ really pay off but it depends on what you want to use it
as i said the bamboo may be perfectly suitable for some applications but still the intuos is exacter and thus better suitable for painting and stuff

thank you for your help gravedigger.
in the end i think i will go for the Bamboo Fun because of its size and its easy interface for beginners. i hope that i wont be sorry in the future.
