hello,

im a little in-experienced with maya shaders on cars, can someone out there help me out with some pointers on how to make realistic looking reflections etc.

like what kind of values should i have the reflection and spec set to?

should i be using a layered texture for the decals or a layered shader? or both?

heres what i have so far
Thanks for all critiques and pointers in advance.

Try this for getting your 'clear coat shine' :

Using a blinn shader as the example...

1. Put the value of the Specular color (still white) to 5. You have to type this in because the slider won't allow you to go further than 1.

2. Put the Reflectivity to .05. Personally when going after these clear coat highlights, I find it a good rule-o-thumb that Reflectivity = (1 / Specular Color value) when the Spec. Color value is 'overdriven'

3. Map a sky environment texture into the Reflected color area.... play with the sky env node to your liking.

4. Because these are sharp highlights your specular roll-off and eccentricity should be quite low.

That's a good starting point :) you can play around with those settings to get a better feel for how it works and to get the exact look you want for the car :).

Hope that helps
