Try lowering the FG/GI radiance in the ilumination section of the red ceiling material.

if i change the FG/GI radiance in the ilumination section of the red ceiling material, will it affect the realisitcness? chek out the pic

Try it... you may not be happy with the results, but it may be just what you need.

I'm still a newb too, it is the only modifiable parameter that I know of that is not in the render options (none of which will AFAIK).

Open a rendertree for the shader connected to your ceiling. Now create a photon node

nodes-->Raytracing-->photon

and connect it's output to the 'photon' input of your material shader. In the ppg of the photon node, set specular/tranparency to 0 and use the diffuse color to control how much (and what color) light you wan't reflected from the ceiling to other parts of the scene. Note that this makes the GI independant of the actual color/intensity of the ceiling, so use it carefully.

Also, make sure the light exponents are set to 2, and play with the FG falloff. Oh and make sure you don't use too much photon bounces, the default of 20 is a little bit high, 10 could be enough.
