Greetings!

My name is Israel, and I am looking to improve on my drawing. I was never really great at it and had abandoned it when I got into 3D in high school. Was doing great with that, continued doing it into college but I started getting this feeling that if I really want to be successful, I need to revisit drawing. There's no better way to learn how to really visualize your ideas than with drawing. Doing things in the 3D medium is lovely but far too technical to use as a tool to learn fundamental principles.

As a way of monitoring my own progress, I decided to start a sketchbook thread. Plus setting one up here, I get the opportunity to receive critique and advice from you wonderful people so that's also awesome.

Without further ado, here's what I've done so far today.

The following are gestures from Pose Maniacs, spent 30 seconds on each pose.

That's it so far. I'm going to be doing some reading and more exercises today, more gestures.

Tomorrow I'll be going out to sketch so that's going to be really interesting, I am excited lol

So yeah, this is me. I'll be here just about every day showing you my progress.

Laters.

So much for posting every day lol

I'll be picking it up though, feeling a lot more motivated after today. Did a couple of upside down drawings from the Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain workbook, a good half hour worth of blind contour drawing, then just now I did some gesture studies on Pose Maniacs. I feel I'm getting better with the gesture drawing, taking my time to analyze the models and laying out more "essential" lines rather than chicken scratching the form in.

Some of the gesture drawings

The horse ended up coming out a bit fat lol I think I did alright with the Igor Stravinsky, couple things I would probably go back and tweak though. And yes he has buck teeth lol

Oh yeah, this is what I'm using/will be using as reference material for those of you who are interested :

-Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain (and the workbook)
-Glen Vilppu Drawing Manual
-Pencil Drawing Techniques
-Andrew Loomis books
-Perspective Made Easy
-Burne Hogarth books
-The Structure of Man
-Drawn To Life

That's it for now, I'll update much sooner next time! lol
