Hi,

I have been using 3ds max for about 2 weeks now so I am very new to this (please don't laugh!)

I need some help modelling a basic set of small steps. I do not know how to go about creating this simple object and to put a small fillet on all the edges.
http://wiki.cgsociety.org/images/7/71/3ds_Help_-_Steps.jpg
I have tried to make each platform using basic boxes, but when it comes to filleting the edges, I want the fillet to be continuous to the profile making the steps look as one rather than individual boxes with fillets. If that makes sense?

Also, after creating the shape with a fillet on all edges, is it possible to change the height of the front step for example 10mm higher with ease or is this not possible?

Any help would be great guys,

Many thanks in advance.

There are two ways to create a stair, the first and easiest one is to use the stair creater tool ;)

the green stair is made out of a plane with extruding edges and add the shell modifier to it.

hope that will help you a little bit

Hi,

Actually the green set is more suited to what I am trying to achieve.
Now how do I go about doing that?
I've recently made the switch from Alias Studio, using that for 5 years to 3ds Max so I'm just trying to get the hang of things.
Also is there a way of doing it acurately to the dimensions I have provided?

Many thanks for your help.

hi, im new to 3ds max too but i think i can at least know this one.
just make a simple plane.
make it editable poly.
check the edge selection tool, select the fitting edge (the one that grows an upper plane)
extrude it (click on the extrude settings to input accurate heights)
do the same with the upper edge and so on...

hope this helped.
