Ive got a CS biped attached to a mesh. Now the mesh is only the neck of a character. Im experimenting with getting the neck to deform correctly. I think I have suceeded.

This mesh deforms great on the biped. Its attached using the skin modifier.

As you can see there is no head on the neck mesh. I made this before I had completed the head.

Now I have created the head as seen below.

I now want to replace the neck mesh attached to the CS biped with the new model ive created (with the head attached). I want the new model to deform exactly as the old one did, the neck is the same model and every polygon is in the same place.

Can I just swap the models on the biped from the old 'just neck' to the new 'neck and head'? Just tell the biped to use this mesh instead of that mesh?

Or do I have to start from scratch and try to copy the parameters of the biped onto another biped attached to the new mesh?

I hope its the first option :)

Biped doesn't care, Skin does. If you didn't select vertices in Skin to change weights, if you only tweaked the envelopes, then it should come across fine.

Go below the Skin mod in your stack to the EditablePoly or Mesh, then attach the new model, then select and delete the element that is the old model. Should work... I think.

As long as you didn't edit Skin vert weights..

Yeah, vert weights are based on vert order.

Oh wait a minute.... you might be able to transfer... try the BioSkin script... it lets you mirror vert weights from one side to the other.

Hmmm, well at least Chuggnut's SkinTools will let you mirror based on vert position instead of order. Not sure about BioSkin.

BioSkin is in the "MaxScript - (Library)" section of the Discreet webboard.

SkinTools is in http://www.chuggnut.com

Good luck!
