Hi all,

I am thinking of buying Maya 4.5 when it will be released.
Will the Complete version have Sub-D modelling or will that only be available in Unlimited again ?

(I am using Lightwave now so i need sub-D).

And while we're on the subject, anyone who has tried the beta could possibly describe the new poly-modeling tools 4.5 (Complete/Unlimited) will have? Would help alot!

Thanks!

Maya 4.5 Complete will have Proxy smooth build in ( Connect Poly Shape ). Then it will have the Tools from the Poly Power Tools Plugin build in, some new Marking Menus and some more painting funktion for Poly modelling. It's not much that isen't possible with plugins anyway.
But Unlimited will have 2 cool new features: Fluid and SubD > NURBS.

So nothing "small" like connect, bevel vertex, etc. etc.? So I can continue to dream about coding my own tools, before AW codes them themselves? :)

Good.

The Bonus Game plugin and Xumi both include Bevel Vertex

i wish they would add a real cool editor for mel and the expressions. with syntax highlighting etc. now i always have to use an external and that's not so nice as i could do that inside :D

but i guess there is a wishlist for all customers at AW. (i guess it's still to long to build down for the guys from AW  )

can you explain exactly what bridge polygon and connect do in their respective applications? Are these really big losses to mayas poly tools.

ATM im using a combination of Xumi2 CPS and the drawsplitdrag thingy. Those tools are pretty good for poly modelling.

I also on occasion use the artisan in scupt polygon mode. It is surprisings good at relaxing surfaces whilst contraining certain lines, and rounding out the mesh features.

One thing i havent worked into my worklow is the magnet plugin / scripts. I hear they are very helpful but cant get my head round in what practical circumstances they would be most useful.

Maya just released some new poly tools for 4.0 that are out of this universe... I've used them and they are awesome. I can almost say Maya as far as poly tools are concerned is at least on par with the best alternatives, ... maybe even better :)

To get a glipse look at this page

To get the info at Alias' website go here..

Most of the tools are old plugins and script packed together.
So Mayas Polygon tools as allways bean good but it required alot of plugins. But now it only required 1 plugin which is great to have it all together.
