i wanna make light effect like this picture, but i don't know how to make it in 3dmax 5.0. I make it before but i used raytraced shadows and i put a picture map on shadow parameters ( i used volume light too ), it works, but it looks unnatural. how to make natural like this picture. help me pls..

I think he used just a raytraced shadow. the picture on the glass of window is projected by the raytracing, as descibed in the book where you find that picture ( digital L&R of jeremy birn)
of course he used some volume effect.

i use raytraced shadow too, but when i don't use the map on shadow parameters, it doesn't work, it only shows volume light but the picture on the glass doesn't show on the wall. is there another way to make it without using map on shadow parameters?

I connected a picture to the transparancy to get the same effect here:

I dont know which application are you using, but in Maya i had to plug the picture in the transparancy just to get the effect wanted.

Not sure, but in the Material Editor you should find some parameter for controling Transparancy (or Opacity). connect there your picture and use raytraced shadows.
As i said I'm not sure cuz i didnt touvh Max since version 3.

can i make the volume light color follow the color from the glass ( the glass has a picture with many kind of color ) that i put after the light pass thru the glass?

try using the same picture as a projector map in the lightsource and then use a white fog color in your volume light dialog.
