View Full Version : Logo: Lightwave Concept
DarkEkko 09-14-2003, 04:10 AM ok, this the second posting of my work... crits and comments welcome :)
over at http://www.3dfightclubforum.com there was a challenge this weekend to recreate the Lightwave logo (or the logo of whatever package you use). I use Lightwave, so i created this image...
i was originally going to make one out of kinex, or lincoln logs, but then i thought "what if it were made of RIBBON!?!" lol
again, crits and comments welcome

yes it looks good. but logo should be more in first plan. Its like it blends with the rest of the pic. Make it a little bit sharper or try with some different adjustments of Depth of field.
all the best

The color is nice, and the environment is cool too - if a bit blurry. I agree that the depth of field needs to be massaged a bit to make the composition really gel.
My biggest question is... If it is made out of ribbon, would the spikes be attached to a curve like that, or would they just comprise the outline of the logo?
Just my two cents... Keep it up! :)

thanx for the comments :)
about the blur - it is actually not DOF, at least not entirely. The F-stop was actually quite large, about 5 and a half. However, (using X-DOF) i cranked up the Scale Behind Focus value to about 300%, making a sort of non linear DOF blurring... ok, if yall are still with me here :) (i explain in great detail, sorry) prior to post work, it actually was not that blurry.
the blurryness actually came from a diffuse glow technique I developed to give my pictures a sort of soft glow effect. granted, it is slightly over blurred, i was still pleased with the outcome, so i kept it :P lol
anyways, as for the spikes, i dunno, its part of the logo, i didnt question it, i just put em in there :D
and as for the logo blending in the background, i had some concerns at the time, but because of depeleted time i had to go with what i had. i really wish i had taken some extra time to sort that issue out...
and i didnt even notice that the ribbon was falling below the table just before it reaches roll until AFTER i had sat there and done all the post work... :annoyed:

ummm, I think you misunderstood what I meant about the spikes... :)
I meant do you think the logo would flow better if it were made from just one flowing piece of ribbon, instead of adding the spikes as seperate pieces.
