Hi,
How can I start a normal avi-file as an animated Texture in Maya ?

I dont like to use a texture-sequence, becauce I dont know how its possible to rename the files like "gif.001, gif.001"

thanks

Goto the Hypershade and create a material. With the material selected, hit ctrl-a to bring up the Attribute Editor. You should see a Color attribute at the top. Click on the checkered thingy and it should bring up the Visor with a multitude of stuff like file, ramp, crater, blah blah.... look for one that says movie. It should like the count-down header. Find the file and it should import it. Map it to your object.

Now goto the channel box, and at the bottom you should see a field with frame extension. Goto frame one in your slider, and keyframe the frame extension at 1. Then move your slider down to however many frames you want the movie to play. Now keyframe the frame extension at the same value of the slider position. Now you should be able to scrub and see your movie on the object.

hope it helps,

Lu

You'll have do add small expression to Frame Extension:
file1.frameExtension=frame;

But Maya love sequenced files :blush:

all you need is =frame.

but i have only been able to get avis working as projections. is it possible to map them normally? (& i have never successfully used image sequences, thanks to the above-mentioned problem of naming proper suffixes)
