Hello. The past few hours I'm trying to figure out how to create custom pallettes. AND I JUST CAN'T FIND HOW!!!!! The manual doesn't even mention custom pallettes and the way painter 7 wow book suggests to do custom pallettes (drag the brush out of the brush selection window to create a new palette) obviously doesn't work with painter 8. I want to have a palette with all my frequently used brushes so that I won't have to select ove and over again fro the brush selection pallette. Please if anyone know the way please tell cause I'm going insane here!!!!

Thanks is advance

Sadly you can't. Custom palettes in painter 8 were disabled/removed.

Personally - while I miss them I tend to save out certain brush styles for airbrush, watercolour etc and use the Brush Tracker to snap back and forth between them. Not perfect (it always reverts to a standard size) but an okay work around never the less...

Are they crazy???????
That was a very useful feature. Now going back and forth on the 6 most frequent brushes I use is a hassle. Jeez. I can't really work this way!!!

Anyway thanks for your answer Angussyme. You really helped me keep my hair on their place...

Now something simmillar. I created a brush category with all my frequently used brushes so everything is in one place and I don't have to switch on the different categories. Now is there a way to assign a shortcut to these brushes? That way I won't even have to touch the brush selector. A quick manual search haven't showed anything so I don't think so but it doesn't cost anything to ask...

hi phobos, doesn't right-clicking bring up a list of your brushes?

This is a bug in Painter 8.

To keep the Size adjustment, also make a slight adjustment to one of the other controls, like Opacity, for instance.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jin! I had been wondering why sometimes the Tracker kept my brushes modified while other it didn't!

Hi Tayete,

You're welcome, but thanks go to some now forgotten Painter user somewhere in the Painter community who discovered that trick early on in Painter 8's bug ridden life.

Good thing we have a Painter community to help each other, huh?

BTW, you can create your own brush palette via files. I mean, go to your Painter/Brushes directory, and create a new directory where you can move all the .XML and .JPGs of your favorite brushes.

Then, when you open Painter you'll find a new library (which can be the default startup one, selecting it at the Preferences>>General menu) with your selected brushes.
But that must be done by hand, moving and copying files with the Explorer.

Tayete,

What you're talking about is not a "brush palette" but a Brush Library.

Good idea, but it's not quite that simple.

In order to do this, you first need to create one or more Brush Categories into which your .XML Brush Variant files and any associated Captured Dab .JPG image files will be placed, if there are any Captured Dab variants.

This is best done inside Painter where you create an icon image, drag a rectangular selection around it, and choose Capture Brush Category from the Brush Selector's menu.

After all of the Brush Categories are created (inside Painter), you can select each Brush Variant and from the Brush Selector's menu, choose Copy Variant, then choose the appropriate new Brush Category name from the drop down list.

If you don't want duplicate files in the currently loaded Brush Library, you then need to go back to the original Brush Categories, select the Brush Variants that were copied to the new Brush Categories, and from the Brush Selector menu, choose Delete Variant.

After all this is done, close Painter and in your file manager, move all of the new Brush Categories and their associated JPG icon image files into the new Brush Library you made at the beginning of these steps.

Each Brush Category will have a matching name JPG icon image file that's exactly 30 x 30 pixels, automatically created by Painter when you chose Capture Brush Category.

Both the Brush Category folders and their associated .JPG icon image files have to be inside the new Brush Library folder and that Brush Library folder has to be in the...

Corel > Corel Painter 8 > Brushes folder

... in order to be available to load and use in Painter 8.
