View Full Version : [dumb question]: How do you delete an attribute?

I’ve looked everywhere for the solution. I’ve searched through the help file, and I’ve searched through the forum. Maybe I don’t know what I’m looking for. Anyhow – How do you delete an attribute?

An Example:
I created a light, and then I added fog to the light. I changed my mind about the fog, and now I want to delete it. For the past year that I’ve been using Maya, I’ve been using the work around technique of turning the values on the attribute that I do not want to zero.

This goofiness must stop, and it must stop today!

Not exactly sure what you're going for....

But try this: Right-click the attribute you want to "delete" and select "break connection."

Is this what you're after?

Thank you verra much! That was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Why didn't they make it easier? Why not call it 'Delete Attribute' instead of BREAK CONNECTION. Friggen robots!

For example?

I'm SO looking for an excuse to switch to XSI.

Everyone [the people I know] keep telling me how wonderful it was for them to switch from Maya to XSI. Whats the deal? Is one more highend than the other? I have both loaded onto my computer, and they pretty much look the same to me. I want a program that will give me COMPLETE creative control to do WHATEVER I think up, and will let me get there with as little headache as possible.

I've heard both sides of the coin. I know people that have gone from Maya to XSI and never looked back. I also know XSI people that jumped on board with Maya and prefer it.

I hate to give such an ambiguos answer, but both are comparable on most levels.

I guess there is only one solution. Try both and see which one works best for me. And watch..... I'll end up returning to my first animation program, 3D Studio Max. I love the way VRay renders. Very perty. Anyhow.....

Thanks for the input.

does anyone know what XSI basic runs for these days? I've stuck with maya myself for the price... (maya complete) I really like both.

The verdict is in..... [my opinion]

XSI (http://www.softimage.com/products/exp/v3/) is EXACTLY the program that I've been looking for! Not only is it HighEnd, but it is extremely organized and forward. Just by playing around with it [never referring to the help or tutorials] I was able to model a chair, create long flowing hair on a polygon object that responds to dynamic forces like wind and gravity, and create a piece of flowing cloth in less than 5 clicks! And then, as a joke, I was able to turn the chair into a cloth object, and apply hair to it! The animation editor is very straight forward, and the IK system is pure BEEF. The renderer is completely integrated, and the project editor is perfect for those who like to work on more than one project at a time.

I’m not saying that XSI is better than Maya. But I am saying that XSI is better for me, and the kind of work that I’m trying to do.

:) Probably, I highly doubt it though. All of the things that I was trying to make in Maya [character rig, cloth, hair, etc] I was able to do in XSI in a matter of minutes. As of now, I'm very satisfied with the switch. XSI fits me like a glove.

Well I for one am happy for you...
Its good to find something that suits you and you can concentrate on creating instead of being baffled about deleteing attributes.

Good luck and hope to see some of those chairs with cloth and hair....

All the best to you.

:D Exactly! Maya is still, in my opinion, an excellent program. Its just not the program for me. It doesn't work the way I work.

Good luck and hope to see some of those chairs with cloth and hair....

All the best to you.
Thank you!
