well, i would like to have a few tips on painting in photoshop ..
my current technique is quite simple, sketching roughly with a 1px brush in pshop, then filling it with 1 color, working out shadows and highlights with burn and dodge, refining it with smudge, and then trying to add detail..

i figured while looking at alot of pictures created here, that this might not be the best technique ;) and its pretty time consuming too ..i get pissed when i dont manage to get results pretty fast and stop painting.

oh and i guess i suck with colors, usually i color a picture by putting a new layer on it, in screen mode or something, lower opacity, and then i draw/smudge/burn/dodge on it until something has the color i want it to have ..

any advice welcome, heres what i started few days ago and with what i am stuck right now, because i obviously lack either skill or inspiration when it comes to cg.

by the way, it should become a darkish knight type of thing standing on a field covered with corpses ..burning ..whatever

The way I work is by making a very rough sketch, then dabbing color swab's all over it, then by making a layer underth that and filling in with big solid chunk's the spaces between the color swabs, then shading into place. (I could show you some process pics if you want) Then I use the paint brush on 3 or 5 and go in for more details. It's fast.

But I don't think it's the best choice b/c my stuff is always not quite enitrly good. Atleast it's fast though. I've got super short attention span. If I tryed to follow your process I doubt I'd get beyond the sketch part :) I need instant results.

I'm kinda stuck looking at yours to though. He needs a story and a motive for standing their. a background could provide visual clues to his reasons.

yea well, i figured the burn/dodge technique and that is not quite good ..im still looking for good coloring tutorials, as i seem to SUCK with colors :/

i tried what a friend of mine recommended ..using a camelhair brush in painter to do the rough stuff, and then refine it, but that takes so long too, and i dont seem to get it right.
plus it looks stupid with the impasto look to it somehow..

i put out my 2 years old extracheap tablet and tried some sketching with it ..that for some reason worked kinda good.

would be lucky about any good coloring tutorials (looked over the forum, 2d tut compilation, lots of stuff, no tutorial that really does the trick for me tho..)
