View Full Version : Skinning Foot misbehaves

Probably something simple. The foot in this character rig I have
constructed misbehaves once bound and angles the foot like he
is standing on the outside edge(knife edge for any martial arts
guys out there....) of the foot.

It is a direct smooth bind with no wrap or lattices.

Help.
:surprised

I'll post a pic when I get a moment.

Is there some sort of control set up on the foot? Are the orientations of the bones correct, and are the transforms all set correctly to zero?

Also, does this happen the moment you bind the foot, or does it happen after you move the foot say, and undo it? (because if the later is the cause, it sounds like a broken IK problem.

I have an idea what causes both issues, but its highly speculative and not really based in any concrete facts, just an educated guess.

Most often I got this problem was when I forgot to remove any rotational transforms on the joints before I bound, or because there was something funny with my IK set up causing the bones to rotate weirdly, and once the skin was bound, it too inherited the problem.

So, check your rig, if ITS perfect, and the problem is still there, well thankfully there are more knowledgable people then me around.

Thanks for the info. Seems that could be it.
Heres the picture - its attached to this post.

What do you think, is this what you mean?

Yeah, thats what I used to get when the IK or Bone orients messed up, and added rotational values when there shouldn't have been. I think basically what happens is the bone in rotated X Y Z amounts, but it considers its still at bindpose, and then it tranfers these values to the mesh...

My fix was always just redoing the bones/IK and watching for wierd rotation or the bones on either the IK handles or the joints.

Is the broken foot the mirrored one, by anychance? If I am right, I suspect it is.
