I doubt it...but here's their regular (domestic) price list. Ouch! Pixar is a money-making MACHINE! (deservedly, of course!) :)

Not really, their market is a really small niche market(cg graphics) of another niche market(film rendering for cgi graphics). I doubt it makes them that much money. 99% of it comes from their movies.

hey, they just cut the price from $5000+ (toolkit+alfserver etc.) to $3500. Artist Tools are down from $3000 to $2000... but I agree, that is still a lot of money for your average user. Yes, that is me :wavey: .But then I don't think your average user is the target audience either...

Would be nice if there was an educational version free of charge or at small cost. Would probably go a long way towards increasing the market share.

Well it's really not necessary considering there are free and cheap alternatives like Aqsis, Pixie and Air. 90% of what you learn in those is totaly applicabe to PRMan. If you later need the specific PRMan features you are for the most part ready for it.

There is educational version. It's 75% off the commercial cost:

Ah great, thanks for the info beaker! Not sure how I missed that. For a student with no income though (and they do require current inrollment in college), the price is still going to be significant.
malducin, thanks for the pointers on alternatives to PRman. I have been wanting to learn Renderman for a long while but never had the time. Any suggestions on good literature?
