Use create polygon tool? and how do you join seperate polygons such as in this 3dsmax tutorial...?

any advice would be great

I just extrude edges....you can connect polys by welding vertices...

the Create Polygon tool will create a polygon but as a seperate surface. the Append To Polygon tool creates a poly thats part of the surface your working on (vertices are already welded). Append may not work to well for what you're trying to follow though.

To join seperate surfaces, first you have to Combine them into one surface (select both surfaces, then go to Polygon>Combine), then weld their shared vertices together.
