I was wondering if anyone could suggest some good books for learning how to build shaders in Maya. I bought a book off amazon for beginners guide to shaders but unfortunately it relies on writing code for the shaders. I don't have time to learn code, and then go through all the hoops to get the scripts to work.

What I really need is a book that explains all of Maya's shader nodes (ie. Facing ratio, colorBlend, etc) and how to use them to build a shader network within the hypershade.

If you're looking for something just to learn what nodes do, you can look through the help documents. Otherwise there's some great reference material with Digital Tutors where they explain every node that comes with maya as well as mental ray. Here's some examples http://www.digitaltutors.com/09/training.php?cid=199&pid=2622 http://www.digitaltutors.com/09/training.php?cid=41&pid=257
