Hello community!

Does somebody here ever try to put a quicktime in background for rotoscoping or for integrating 3d in live footage.

I noticed that with a quicktime in 29.97 fps, max doesn't interpret the quicktime correctly. I mean that if I go to frame 355 in max and if I go to frame 355 in another software like quicktime, after effect or combustion, the frames are shifted. Example max show 354 instead of 355 (or maybe it was 356 I don't remember)

The only workaround I find to date is to output tga of tiff sequence from quicktime and use frame sequence instead of quicktime in max. But I would like to know if there is a way to make max interpret quicktime correctly.

Thanks a lot in advance.

I pay a beer to anyone who can answer this and come in Quebec city to drink with me!

This is probably a stupid question but did you change the frame rate in max to 29.97 or did you leave it at the default 30 fps?

I keep the framerate at 29.97 everywhere (in the time config panel, I check NTSC, which fps is 29.97)

Did you try to convert that mov file to avi in after effects, end then put the avi into max ?

just a taught ....

Irregardless of any issues with the FPS I'd still personally prefer image sequences. Messing around with movie-files always leads to decreased performance in my experience, in particular when scrubbing the timeslider around.

I realise you're not asking for all kinds of varied opinions on the matter, I just.. felt like leaning in with the use-image-sequence advice nontheless.

Maybe try Bobo's ScrubbyDoo?

Posted on another place too, but i repeat it here for others

* Quicktime Issue:
My test gave me this - quicktime is sometime 1 frame
of,depending on max's timeline framenumber

I strongly recommend AVI's (or image sequences, cause a AVI
file adopts it playbackframerate AUTOMATICALLY to Max's
configured framerate

Quicktime is a resource hog on windows
- so why would you use that migrated apple tools on windows
except for compatibility and conversion thingies ?

Gaggle: sure, but when we have a lot of quicktimes to process, it becomes harassing a little bit (all my reference footage originally came in quicktime format).

Spacefrog and Dare: Avi is better but has still the same problem. As you can see on this screen grab:

http://www3.sympatico.ca/jstrob2/maxbug/qt-avi.gif

I am at frame 499. In the backgrounds of my views I have the same anim rendered with every single 501 frames numbered from 0 to 500. On the left, we have a quicktime and on the right, it's an avi. Quicktime start duplicating frames at frame 3. Avi start skipping frame at frame 499...

The reason why I used quicktime is because I worked on a tv show shot on miniDV an edited with final cut pro on macs so my original footage always came in quicktime and I had of lot of footages to process.

Posm: I will try Bobo's ScrubbyDoo. Thank you very much for the link.
