View Full Version : Duplicating a rigged leg in maya
JaredTaylor 04-26-2010, 10:55 PM Hi,
I'm making a robotic scorpion, and I have a rigged leg, I'd like to duplicate it with all the parent constraints, ik handles, and everyyyything intact. Is there a way of doing this or do I have to rig all six legs separately? Takes me 30-45 mins a leg.

I feel sorry for you;)
That`s why they make all those scripts to automate these things.

I would recommend scripting out your setup since this is the most flexible way to go... if you need to modify it after the fact it is a simple matter of changing the script and rebuilding it....
However, if that's not the way you want to go, there are 2 ways that I know of to achieve this.
1.) select the root of your system and go to edit>duplicate special and open the dialog box. Turn on duplicate input graph then hit apply.
or...
2.) save out your leg setup as a file then reference it in a few times. Place the references where you want them then open up the reference editor and go to file>import objects from reference.
both these options should give you what you need.
Hope it helps.
