Hi there,

I've been trying to model the IKEA Tirup chair using box modeling in Maya. So far I've managed to model the overall shape and I've just started adding details to it. The seams I've already done are created by inserting four edge loops creating 3 narrow rows of polygons of which I've extruded the two outer ones, making them stick out a bit. The problem I now have is that I don't know how to add the seams that run diagonally across the chair. I have added a temporary NURBS curve to show how the seam (more or less) should go.

I've attached a reference image of the chair that should make it clear what I want to achieve and 2 screenshots from Maya.

Can you show the mesh before you smoothed it?

You could always just normal/bump map out those seams instead of going back and modeling them in.

But yeah, Let me scribble on a picture of your mesh before you smoothed it and maybe i can find a solution. It's making me think. :wip:

Cheers in advance for having a look at this. Here's the mesh before smoothing.

soo this is what i came up with, hope it solves the problem.

Also, when you bevel the 1 edgeloop or add mroe edge loops to create the 'seam' effects, it should look like this for each section. :
