View Full Version : Mechanical Scorpion
ptacnik 09-11-2003, 08:19 AM Been workin on this guy for awile now, took about 4 weeks to get what I have so far
Im tryin my best to get some materials created... but it sure is a pain im trying for a "wore metal" look, like the main colour will be green but it needs to be scrapped up and showing a little of the silver below it
Ive only been working with max for about three months and im trying to figure out the material editor and UVW unrapper, I think im sorta gettin' the hang of it but Mat. are not the easiest thing for me
anyway i thought id throw this in here and see what everyone thought so far, any comments or suggestions regarding texturing, modeling, ect would very much appreciated
Let me know what you guys think
Thanx

I have seen alot of of mechscorpions through my time both good and bad, but I must say this is a very cool design it look like something you would see in Startrek or similar because of the Slimline design it could easely be a medicalprobedroide, allmost all the others have been bulgy detroyerrobots and they Can be cool but yours the best !!

Great modelling there!
The legs are perfect, or looks as from this distance, I would love to see a closeup to see how *you* solved the mechanics there.
The plating still needs some work, more segmentation, and some variation. The tail looks a bit emty with a lack of cogs, wires, ect... And that long wire going all the way up to the tail, that would never do, if you wanted this baby to work in reality. Looks cool, but would jam into the tail, when it moves, so try to mount it onto the segments of the tail.
Some receptors on the head maybe... (Well, OK, I know this is only a WIP...)
It seems we're having the year of mecha scorpions, so you've got quite a strong competittion out there!
Good Luck!
P.S.: I agree about the StarTrek look... but can't figure it out why... :D

thanx for the comments, as for the wire in the back... im tryin to make this guy look old and worn, so its more like it go pulled out and its just hangin' there now....

i've also got some mat woked out (see attached file)
thanx again for you comments

Hmm, a bit wierd shader at first glance. The paint peels diferently! Just look around, looks for old, aged thing with paint peeling off!
Paint peel is hard edged, even when its not peel, but chafing. Dust in the other hand along with rust can have soft edges, and usually it is soft edged. So you've got that right...
But really, use reference! When it comes to thing you can examine in reality, then go, and examine it! :D
By the way: you can insert an image right into the post, not as an attached one, by using the IMG button, or using it as an [IMG] vB tag.
Some big light receptors, or camera lenses would do best IMO, with a red glow, and a real black "depth" in the lens...
Keep up the good work!
