Hi, everybody this is the first time I am going to be in for the challenge. And that on my birthday.

I hope you can read all this stuff I am ticking, because there is no more beer. So I have taken my bottle of Bacardi and now some thing are turning around:insane:. But it taste good.

OH YEAH!!

I am going to made my sketch this weekend. I have the idea in my head, but I have to draw them on paper, otherwise I can't make a good environment.

But I can say how it going to look like. (whow ticking is difficult with al lot of alcohol. I use a lot of backspace :p) The scene is going to be a big old tree without leaves (he isn't dead yet), with some mushroom around it. In the background there will be more trees and so.

You will see the sketch this saterday or sunday and then I hope it will be easier for all of you how it will look alike.

For everybody whose birthday is tody, HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

Bye for now,

Mr. Nice Guy

One thing I've been noticing, and this isn't directed solely at you Mr.NG, is that people are giving their trees HUGE root structures based on the size of their trees. If you could dig a tree out of the ground and get all of the dirt off you would see that (with a few exceptions) the roots were about the same size or smaller than the branches. Now if you took your model tree and flipped it upside down would the roots(used to be branches) and the branches(used to be roots) look ballenced? Or would it look like it would snap out of the ground if a bird landed in it.

I know that the modeling style is entirely up to the artist, and anything goes. But I just though that people should keep this in mind when making their trees. I'm not bashing anybody's work either, just making an objective statement.

Sorry for using your thread as a sounding board Mr. NiceGuy. I do hope it will help with the scene. No offence was meant to you or anyone else. :D

ZrO-1 it doesn't matter that you used my thread for your critique, it gives my a totally new look at trees. And I will defentily take a look at my tree for that.

I havn't done much for my scene. So I can't give a update, but I have made some photos of trees for reference and that is what I want to share with everybody.

TREE REFERENCE (http://www.weber-images.nl/challenge)

Maybe there will be some more photos.

Bye for now,

Awesome ref pics Mr. NG!
That was really cool of you. And it should really help. I know I'll be using it for my foreground trees when I begin on them.

I'm glad I didn't piss you off, and maybe even helped a little. :D

one thing you might want to do is add another row of polys close to the bigger of the branches you are fusing/or growing

keep it up:wip:

Thanks nice guy, for the refs. A quick Crit would be to watch out when you smooth your branches out. They look a little too much like antlers. There is a little too smooth of a transition from branch to twig.
Thanks Again,
Dan

I will take a look at the branches tonight. And then there will be a new update.

I really like the top of the tree but the roots are a bit disapointing.
You might wanna detach them and make new ones.
Then atache the new ones. they are a bit flat and don't give the feeling of ****ing water out of th earth.
the root that hangs above the watter can go in the watter and split up in more roots and how that root comes out of the tree is a bit weard. maybe it is the angle of vieuw. Why don't you give us
some other angle shots.

Yea, the board id full f Dutch people

It might not have been your intention but the texture/color you have on the ground and the sparseness of the grass almost makes it 'feel' like a beach. Like the sand dunes that meet up with the actual beach. :) It's pro'lly not good for a forrest but it still looks pretty cool in my book. :D

Here is a new update.

I know I haven't reply sooner.:annoyed: This is that I am slow worker if it comes to personal work. I know this is a challenge with a deadline, but still it will be personal work.:thumbsdow
One day it will be finished, but not before the deadline. I will be still working on it, but I will also work on other personal work (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10816)

Please give some comments on the textures.

@ Zr0-1: It wasn't my intention to make a beach-look. I didn't textured the ground yet.

@ Iguiniz.X. I will take a look at the roots of my tree. And yes, there are a lot of Dutch people on this board. And that for so small country

Bye for now

I really like the bark texture on your tree. It looks great! I think in the forground I would add in a bunch of bushes along the river. Other than that it's coming along pretty well.

Aaargh the last couple days I haven't do anything. So my challenge won't be finished. Maybe it will be finished in another period. And maybe it will look different then.

I hope I have more time when I join the next time for a challenge.
