View Full Version : displacement map problems(PIPE)
http://www.skiguy.net/displace.jpg
as you can see the displacement map is not.. uniform
it kind of gets longer as it heads to the ends of the pipe
is there anyway to map it so that the texture(displacement) doesn't distort as it gets further away from the center of the pipe?

Well, you could apply a Cylindrical Projection.
Edit Polygons > Texture > Cylindrical Mapping
But because the pipe is wiggly, the projection will not follow the surface perfectly still, because the projection is a straight cylinder and the pipe is not.
If you straightened the pipe, applied the projection and texture, then bent the pipe again it should work. Or use a NURBS pipe instead, because the UVs should automatically lay out properly then.
Hehe, I hope that was somehow helpful!

Yes, and try to apply it to Color first so you can check if it is correctly mapped before having to render it.
oh yeah, it is a nurbs pipe ;)
how can I check nurbs uv map?
