Really excited for this topic!
I was thinking about an alligator snapping turtle at first, but really can't make too much of a dynamic pose of it and not quite ocean-like...
After goggling for a while, I've come to the decision to make a little ocean mammals life cycle after seeing this article - http://fizzyenergy.com/seal-overrach-a-killer-whale/
I'm going to add a little spice to it and add a little adelie penguin on the shore watching its predator escape its own predator.
Chinese has an old say "when the mantis stalk a beetle, the oriole lurking from behind", so now "when the leopard seal hunt an adelie penguin, the orcas came up from behind"

The last HMC entry I had was #16, almost 1.5 years ago :hmm: !

Spiritmouse this is a really cool scene you are mocking up. It should be ripe with personality. Good luck and can't wait to see you start working on this.

Really cool article. Haha what a lucky seal. He almost "sealed" his fate by swimming into the shallows. (ugh, it's a terrible pun, but I just couldn't help myself).

yuo, definitely a really lucky seal :)

Finally get started on some base mesh:

I'm going to start with natural pose for the base meshes before I go into posing them. And I couldn't seem to find good photo reference of leopard pups' to make a good model sheet to start off, so I'm starting with an adult seal, then I'll deform it to match a junior seal's proportion.

With so much extra work that comes in this last month, I couldn't finish this piece with the deadline...
I tried to do my best catch up with the last 2 free days... but not quite enough still...
It's a shame....

This is how far I've got the models, haven't even start sculpting yet... but I intend to finish it in the next month or so :)
