Hey,

We have a problem which has been causing us some headache for quite some time now.
Once you create a group in 3Ds max and then open the group, it creates a pinkish bounding box surrounding the group. This pinkish box allows you to select every object in the group by just clicking on it.

We REALLY want to hide that box cause we can not select multiple object since the pinkish bounding box is in the way. The shortcut "J" only hides the white bounding boxes for a single object, so that doesn't work. Our question: Can we hide those pinkish bounding boxes so we won't select the entire group if we don't want to?

Thanks in advance.

No, cause when the group is closed you cant select the objects in the group.
It's like this: you have a simple chair and every part is a part of the group (4 legs, seat, armrests, etc.)
I open the group to select 2 of the legs which are very near the group bounding box taking that box along with the selection. But once I even hit the group bounding box with 1 pixel, it will select the entire group instead of just the two legs. (this is an example, it's not really a chair but a detailed house)

Set your selection filter to geometry (or whatever your objects consists of). That way you will not accidentially select the pinkish group bounding box.
Groups are treated as helper objects by the selection filter. So you could also use combos.. jsut be sure NOT to include helpers in your combo. (i.e. if your objects consists of splines AND geometry objects)

Thank you so much!
That was exactly what I needed :D

You can also hide the group object in the layer panel (or if you have "hide selection" set on a shortcut, you can use that as well), independently from the content of the group.
