Max hangs on one of the computers that I use at work but not on another when I try to open the same file.

When opening the file on the computer that hangs, it seems to load all the geometry just fine the viewports refresh then all the graphics lock up.

This file opens fine on another XP computer running Max.

Both computer are running WindowsXP. I am trying to find out if the original file was created in Windows2k.

Does anyone have any ideas why one file would hang. I don't see any errors in the Max log files? Anyone know how to fix a problem like this?

hang as in freeze?

could be gfx drivers or bad ram...

it locks up... and it only locks up when a certain image is in the viewport.

I'll update my Quadro drivers... It might crash when a BMP file is loaded. But I have never had this problem before. TGA files open fine.

If your running the maxtreme driver that could be causing some problems. I ran into a lot of grief with that so I switched back to OpenGL which works fine. I'd reccomend you switch to OpenGL and see what happens.

I had a shite load of crashes with Direct X.

Switched to OpenGL and it's been smooth sailing.

Give it a shot.

Also, if you have your textures over a network, it could be the culprit OR if it's in a folder with a LOT of pics/maps. It has to parse the folder structure and may be having trouble getting through.
