View Full Version : cinema 4D CE problem (mac users)
hoochoochoochoo 09-10-2003, 03:20 PM Got my grubby little mitts on 3DWorld and installed cinema 4D XL6 CE on my work PC.
Works great!
Thanks very much to Maxon this really is a great freebie!
The magazine said it'd work on macs with OS8 and upwards.
I have 8.5.1 at home (where I do most of my stuff) but double-clicking got a "CarbonLib" error.
Tried #-I combination to "get Info" and the pop-up read that its an OSX application???
can anyone shed any light ?

I don't think any carbon application will work in anything less than 8.6 which I'm not sure if you can get anymore. You may have to go and buy a of OS 9, but becareful if you have an old PPC or an early G3, OS 9.1 really struggles. 9.2 maybe OK never tried it.

hi and thanks for your reply.
I was mainly wondering if there's anyone else happens to have this running and found out whether or not its a OS version issue.
Am I the only MacUser joined the C4D ranks through this freebie?

Am I the only MacUser joined the C4D ranks through this freebie? maybe I am...
anyway further investigation and finding old reviews of C4D XL6 on the web showed that it'd run on anything with OS7.6.1 upwards. ( before carbonlib was even thought of.?)
I have contacted Maxon direct and will try computerarts and 3Dworld.
Will post any official reply here.

Ideally you should have at least 8.6, 9 would be better and OSX would be nice. Carbon lib can be downloaded from the apple website.

thanks Matt,
i have a clone so 8.6 won't go on (thanks Steve Jobs!:shame: )
but am picking up an old Apple G3 so that will solve my problems at home.
Definitely a PC next time...

now i'm not sure, cause my ibook died a while back, but i think you can get the carbonlib for older OS's. i know i had to download it to get some things to run on os9.1
so you might try hunting about on apple's site for it...
although i'm strictly a pc user now, so i could be way off hehe

it was definitley a carbonlib error. Picked up an old G3 for £25 and it ran the CE version fine.
My trusty old clone will be retained for other software.
Many thanks to all that offered help and advice!
