View Full Version : ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 (laptop card) for 3d work?
switchblade327 04-19-2010, 07:56 AM I know ATI and Autodesk aren't the best combination and all things being equal, I'd always go with an nVidia card. That said, The Radeon 5870 card looks to be the top non-SLI 3d card for laptops right now in benchmarks by a good amount and there are some good deals out there on i7 laptops with these cards.
Does anyone here have any firsthand experience with this card in Max, Maya and/or MotionBuilder they could share? Are the ATI driver issues overblown or are they really that busted?

the weirdest thing is I've used other ATI mobility cards with maya on two laptops now and they've worked totally fine, but when I use a Firepro 3750 on a desktop, I get nothing but problems with maya despite it being a "pro" card

That is strange. Yeah, now that I think back, my oldest laptop had a Radeon and I had no issues but that was quite a long time ago.
Anyone else have any experience with this?
