View Full Version : 8.2 problems
nataz 09-10-2003, 12:14 PM i thought it would be interesting to have a thread regarding what works better and what doesn't with V 8.2; as people from maxon wander around they may find usefull informations here.
So i start :
(on my mac g4/400, >700mo RAM, ATI Rage pro 128) ;
- my wacom mouse middle and right click isn't recognized (even if i configure it in its param panel) :annoyed:
- before when i used the rotate view button my mouse pointer disapeared leaving me free to rotate the view very easely; nowmy pointer stays in the window so as soon as i reach the border of my screen i have to re-click the button for further rotation (same with zoom and move view)
- on large object when i hit "s" to see just the selection made c4d frame the whole object not only the selection
- the live selection is slower than before, it takes some time (i would say half a second) before it starts working
The good points :
- This new material manager is awsome
- The new default light tool is really usefull
- The color palette is a real improvement as well

I noticed something like that too (Win-version here). I don't think it frames the whole object here, but far more than the selection anyway. It seems to work as expected in orthoviews though, so I think this bug affects perspective cam only.
But all in all, the other things make it a very good update!

This is just a guess (because I can't install it) but you may need the MS intellimouse driver even though the three button mouse thing works in the BP2 demo fine for me.

I'm pretty sure Cinema has always worked this way when tablet support is enabled--at least it's always been that way for me.

You may need to change the shortcut. Try using the View-->Frame Selected Elements command.

Do you have OpenGL enabled? I'm not sure if it might be set back to software display with the update.

I havn't been using the MS driver recently because OS X does support multiple buttons now. But I used to have the MS driver and the Wacom one at the same time - no probs.

Umm, another long shot, you are using the alt key when you try and use the middle mouse button?
Finally got mine installed and it is working fine. So it the material list.

you're not able to rotate/pan/dolly the view with alt+lmb, alt+mmb, alt+mmb? on OSX i found i had to disable Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer's control panel for cinema (you can choose what applications to not use the direver with from teh control panel), then when it was just using osx' driver all worked wonderfully.

this allows you to set up the default lighting in a scene, for modelling, or texturing (when you've got no other lights in there).

go to display/default light in your editor and a new little window should pop up, it can be docked as well, for BP I have it docked. Basically you clikc in the window and drag around and it moves around the default light, orbiting around the center of your view.

hey thats funky...thanks guys.
alot of the time i have a default scene setup...with some of kai's tips...rims..contours..+default light setup.

yeah, I was able to get rid of my countour light setup, if you move the default light all the way to the top right or top left corner, it actually works as a two sided light (jsut the way the default light was designed so its faster than a regular light) so it gives you that perfect contour, and it is faster then a single light let alone the two lights needed to do the same thing, and it no longer interferes with my light setup for the scene (accidently rendering with the contour light instead of the scene lights)

Update seems great, but Iīm missing some explanations for the new BP outfit.
And Iīve a problem, I couldnīt solve until now:
In the material-manager I get only a LISTING, independent from choosing "Material" or Material - List". The old style with materials in a row isnīt possible. Anyone else out there with this problem? Itīs under Win XP Pro.
Thanks,
Gunter

There should be an entry called "Material" just above "Material List". That's the old display.

Gunter,
there are some people having this problem with the materials-list-only-display, including myself.
I was able to solve it with a fresh installation (8xl + 8.2update)...

Thank you FreWe,
you did a complete new installation ? ? ? or just repeated the update-installation?
If complete new installation - in a new directory, all modules, all serials...whoooo, looks some work arising....

Hi,
even if you install CINEMA anew completely you don't have to enter the serials again. As for your plugins, just copy the complete plugin folder from thew old to the new installation. Remember, you can have as many CINEMA installations on one machine as you want.
Cheers

another thing is that, since my update, C4D ask me at start up for the dynamics serial though i have the XL bundle (no dynamics included) :surprised
Anyone have a clue ?
AdamT

Did the updater create a Dynamics folder in your modules directory? If so just delete it and the warning message should go away.

that's what is surprising; it didn't :surprised

ReHi Gunter,
I just made a complete new fresh installation. I was suprised how fast I got through this - much faster than the initial installation.
And it works fine!
