Hi everyone, This is my first question here. I hope I get the best support from this beneficial community :) and please excuse my bad English.
I'm working on a project doing detail 3D modeling of ornaments on traditional Malay houses. Poly model is my choice of tool and I'm using 3dsMax. I want to keep every single faces in quads so that the finished model can be exported into various 3D package and poly-smoothed/subdivided without any problem. Here's some screen-captures of the model that I'm working on.

The center of the image is the part which I'm working on.
Right now I'm facing problem with the corners. If I do a quad face at a corner it'll lead to creating more polys just to keep the the topology right and mantain it's flow. So I end up leaving the corner as tri-face. This is when the problem comes. I screen-cap few images of the corner.

As you can see, the corner is a very small tri-face. Below is screen-cap of the model after smooth.
http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/22/kr06.th.jpg (http://img43.imageshack.us/i/kr06.jpg/) http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/7171/kr07.th.jpg (http://img145.imageshack.us/i/kr07.jpg/)
As you can see, after smoothing, the corner sink-in to the adjacent face.
I've tried many ways to tackle the prob, but it's frustrating. So anyone has opinion on this? If you want to see the model here's the OBJ (http://www.axisthink.com/kr_02.zip).
Thank you.
